Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening at Medi is achieved by the treatment of enamel with oxidizers such as hydrogen peroxide and carbamide. With the help of special cover plates - «caps», made for each patient individually, the oxidant is contained on the enamel so as not to affect adjacent mucous membranes.

The procedure is prescribed when there is significant discoloration in the enamel. This discoloration can be caused by coffee, tea, cola, smoking etc. Less frequently, changes in enamel color may be side effects of antibiotics, and lead, brass and other metal compound poisoning.
The three ways to bleach teeth are domestic, professional and mixed. «Domestic» bleaching consists of the dentist first making a mould of the patient's teeth, then preparing «the cap», a retainer, which is put on the teeth. After that the dentist explains to the patient how to do the bleaching at home.
Professional bleaching is performed in the clinic. Stronger formulations are used and the procedure takes less time. After the teeth whitening with hydrogen peroxide the tooth is etched with phosphoric acid solution. Laser bleaching consists of hydrogen peroxide on the tooth enamel activated by a laser thus enhancing the bleaching effect. The mixed bleaching method is performed in the clinic and at home.
The results of professional bleaching can be appreciated immediately after the procedure, domestic bleaching requires the execution of several procedures, depending on the degree of color change required.
The complications of this method are rarely observed. One of them is "overbleaching", when the tooth surface resembles that of chalk («chalk-like» teeth). The degree of complications depends on professionalism of the clinic, dentist's experience and the use of high-quality materials.
