Laser epilation is a procedure using specially designed lasers to permanently remove unwanted hair.
Laser Epilation
This procedure is indicated when women wish to remove hair on the face, legs and armpits or bikini area. For men, the operation is performed mostly for medical purposes, when everyday shaving causes strong irritation and inflammation appears. It is important to remember that hypertricosis, or female (and sometimes male) excessive hair growth, may be attributed to genetic predisposition or a sign of endocrine disease. Though laser epilation removes «extra» hair, it does not eliminate hormone-related diseases, which can cause excessive growth.
Lasers used in cosmetology possess a remarkable quality to heat instantly and destroy cells that contain pigment (melanin). The laser beam runs along a hair-shaft to its root and burns the hair follicle in a matter of milliseconds. Despite the rapid temperature growth in the bulb area, the procedure is painless, as cooling also takes place instantly. The cells that make up the hair bulb contain large amounts of melanin and these are precisely the ones destroyed by the laser. Unfortunately laser hair removal is less effective on fair hair and dark skin.
Laser for hair removal
The only complication of laser epilation might be mild burns, a result of improper procedure. The results of laser epilation can be seen immediately after the procedure. Several treatments are necessary to achieve complete hair removal. Ephebic and old hair start to grow again after the operation and this requires additional treatments. Slight reddening of the skin may remain for some time, however this does not require any special treatment and will disappear with time. Following laser epilation, the patient is advised to avoid the sun for at least 1 week. Sunscreen should be used for the next two weeks because temporary ultraviolet senstiviity can lead to hyper-pigmentation.
Laser epilation is the most effective method for the removal of unwanted hair. Conducted properly, it is virtually painlessness, quick, more effective than other methods of hair removal and does not permanently damage the skin. It should also be noted that after complete laser epilation, most of the hair does not grow back and there is no inflammation.
